chest pain

Post a new topicby MissKitty on Wed Nov 07, 2007 8:08 pm

Hi, I'm wondering about my chest pain and shortness of breath. The Dr. that I saw "thinks" it may be caused by pleurisy, and gave me some antibiotics. I've had a catscan, ECG, blood work...etc. The blood work showed a higher than average level of something which may indicate that I have a blockage in the pulminary artery. The Dr. that read the catscan....(who said that he doesn't read those things very well) said that he didn't see a blockage. I've done some research on pleurisy symptoms and causes and it doesn't sound like what I have.
I'm a female in my mid-30's. I have had no colds, coughs or fevers. I do not smoke. I started to have chest pains starting at 11:30 three days ago directly in the centre of my chest where the rib cage meets. The pain is isolated to that one spot. I had not been running or doing any strenuous activities. I had been wrestling (playfully) with my husband earlier, but I wouldn't think that would have brought the chest pain on 2 hours later. I've wrestled before and have never felt pain like that.
The pain and shortness of breath goes away when I am sitting straight or lying on my back. It is when I move that I feel like someone has their heel in the middle of my chest and I'm short of breath. It is actually more painful to exhale than inhale.
My family is concerned as I have had two first cousins die in their mid-late 30's of sudden heart attacks and a second cousin who was 36 when she had to have by-pass surgery done on her heart.
Hopefully this will go away on its own or perhaps the Dr. was right and the antibiotics will clear this strange thing up. I just thought someone may have heard or experienced something similar.
