Pain related to post kidney transplant operationMy best friend of 30 years was diagnosed with Goodpasture's Syndrome about ten years ago. Her kidneys failed and she was on dialysis until about two years ago when she had a kidney transplant. Since the transplant, she has complained about severe migrains and terrible pain in her abdomen, her neck and shoulders. She is currently on some serious pain medication (dilauded) (Vicoden) and one other that I can't remember. She takes anti-rejection medications, benedryl and potassium oxide supplements. She takes several of the pain pills each day and says that she knows that she is somewhat addicted but without them she would be in serious pain and unable to function.
My question is this: Is the pain directly related to the kidney transplant or is it a result of increasingly large doses of the pain medication (withdrawal symptoms?) Her family and I are really concerned and would like to know if we need to intervene with her Doctor. She has told us that the Dr. seems to have no problem prescribing these medications for her although none of us have been able to confirm this with him. Thanks for your answer
Re: pain related to post kidney transplant operationThis is definitely NOT how it should be! I worry when I read that the doctor does not seem concerned! I have had 2 kidney transplants myself and have never experienced that! Something else is causing it! I have been on most transplant medications and even when I was found to be allergic to one of them I never had pain like that at all!
This should be investigated farther!
