what would happen if a person that had functioning kidneys was to be put on dialysis? would it OVER clean their blood and strip it of too much potassium and electrolytes etc?

That is an interesting question and wonder why you ask it. Dialysis doesn't take out the same amount of things on everyone like everyone else. Dialysis is tailored to each person based on their lab work results.

For example .. after I had my kidney transplant I had to still do dialysis. They had to tailor it not to take off too much fluid and toward the end not any fluid and they had to not take off too much Potassium neither ... they still had to take out everything else dialysis takes out in my case. At first they had to take out fluid like normal before the transplant because I had ATN and the kidney didn't work for 7 weeks.
