I would like to know what happens when the kidneys shut down completly.Does death follow imediatly if you are dnr?

If the kidney shut down completely then death usually occurs within 5 to 10 days. Most people with renal faiure have some renal function. Patients who go on to dialysis usually have renal function that is below 15% of normal. Without dialsysi these patients may survive for a longer period of time months but the renal function tends to steadily worsen ansd the patient does worse as time goes on.

Patient on Dialysis who decide to stop dialysis usually have renal function that is well below 5% and they on average die within 6-9 days after stopping dialysis. Some patients die with several dauys and on occassion patients can live severl monthes after coming off dialsysi (rarely).
