enlarged kidney

Post a new topicby jdiakiw on Wed Aug 05, 2009 7:59 am

I was inadvertently discovered to have extensive renal cysts 6 years ago but after stopping vioxx, creatinine level dropped to about 143 ever since. I had a MRI in dec 08 which showed left kidney at 12 cm and right at 10. In july a few weeks ago an ultrasound at my rural hospital indicated a left k at 18cm and a right k at 14 cm! and blood tests showed one elevated potassium out of the last 6 blood tests done every 2 months. MY nephrologist has always assumed I had a non inherited type since I had only a normal sized kidney but with this growth PKD 2 becomes a more viable possibility. Am having another ultrasound at my Dr's hospital to rule out equipment or radiologist error. ( he is head of nephrology at toronto general hospital and university of toronto medical school --dr pei)

Is this type of growth over 7 months a possibility? any comments would be appreciated
