response to treatment

Post a new topicby sebarrera on Wed Aug 20, 2008 6:25 pm

my son is five years old and was dignosed last week with nephrotic syndrome now he is in treatment with steroids. the dr asked us to keep track of how much protein he leaks my questions is: Is it normal for some days to be negative and other days to be showing a trace or an acutal number of protein? Is this someting that fluctuates? I thought once he stoped leaking that was it. is this a relapse? if anyone with more experience can tell me something more i sure appreciate it. This is very new to me i had never heard of this syndrome and it scares me that he is leaking a little bit again.

My boyfriend has Nephrotic Syndrome and has been on medication for the past 6 months. He gets his urine checked every month. Sometimes he has no protein in his urine and sometime he does. Hope this helps.

Hello, My daughter Layla is 3 yrs old and was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome 20th july, after taking steroids for less than one week her protein went from 4++++ to negative and at present to 1+, I have a hospital appointment tomorrow so I will ask about this, but i am sure you may have your answer already, however whilst she was showing negative she was drinking alot of cranberry juice maybe this helped, i am trying to get her to drink it all the time but she seems to drink alot less at the moment.Good Luck, it is all so new to us also, and is comforting to know that other parents are in the same uncertain boat.
