Nephrotic Syndrome

I am patient of MCNS for the past 9 years. out of 9 years number of relapses. So far I was taken medicine prednisone - each time 60mg tapering to 5 mg and stop. Earlier I was with out medicine 3 months, 6 months and 9 months. but recently only one month maximum with out medicine. Say 2 relapses in a year. Now I have been advised Ramipril by one of my cousins (he is Doctor in US). I am about to start after testing 24 hours Urine protein. I have maximum protein losing 2900mg/l.
Have any one got similar experience?
If i use Ramipril will be there any side affects? I am working in qatar. Will it affect in working.I am a smoker of 14 to 18 cigrette in a day. Will Cig. affect my disease?
Please put forward your opinion and experience. I am 49 year old.
