RE: Sponge kidneys/hydronephrosis.Hello again. I forgot to ask what long term problems I may have with sponge kidneys and the hydronephrosis. Any measures I can take to keep them functioning correctly? Please respond when you have a moment. Thank you.
Re: RE: Sponge kidneys/hydronephrosis.MSK patients are at risk for recurrent calcium oxalate kidney stones Many patients with MSK have decreased urinary citrate excretion in the urine. The citrate in the urine helps to prevent stone formation by blocking the calcium and oxalate from coming together to form a stone. Patients with MSK a nd recurrent stones should have their urine analzed for calcium, oxalate and citrate and if the urinary citrate level is low then they can be place on citrate supplements (URO_CITK) and should drink lots of lemonade.
