What to expect

Post a new topicby Bryby on Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:39 pm

Hi all. I have had aching pains in my right kidney area for more than a year now. In February i started getting worse aching pains though. I told my doctor about it about and he had me do urine tests. That didnt turn up anything, so he sent me to get a CT scan. Sure enough the scan showed 2 kidney stones on my right side. However, evidently that shouldnt have caused pain. So i saw a gastroenterologist. He saw no problems and thought maybe it was a pocket of gas and prescribed me IC Hyomax to kill the pain. That did not work at all. I then did another urine test and a urine cytology test. These showed blood in the urine, kidney cells and crystals. So now my doctor is sending me to a urologist And from what i have been reading here, most doctors dont beleive stones still in the kidney cause pain. I am worried because i dont even know what to expect, i certainly dont want to live like this much longer. The pain in worst in my lower back, right side especially when i dont have enough to drink. I'm 23 years old and i eat very healthy. I've been looking online for nature ways to dissolve the kidney stones and have been trying them all, except i dont know which type of stone it is. The last thing i want is to fall over at work screaming in pain! If anyone has had these problems please let me know. Also, when i was like 13 years old i had the the same aching pains, then a sharp pain in the same side while playing football. When i went home i urinated dark blood. They did a slew of tests but didnt come up with anything. I am beggining to think that was a kidney stone, too. Why are kidney stones such a controversy?! Uhhhhhhg.

It sounds like kidney stones to me - but without a CT, you may not be able to get a straight answer. My kidneys hurt all the time, but kidney stone pain has definite symptoms. Any flank pain radiating to the abdomen, accompanied with frequent urination, infrequent urination, blood in the urine or brown urine, cloudy urine with milky-looking material settling in the bottom of a clear glass, pain during urination, fever, nausea and/or vomiting, or any combination of these symptoms warrants a trip to the emergency room immediately.

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of fluids -- no Coke, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Tea or coffee. Cranberry juice, ginger ale and water are good. Drink one 8 ox glass eevery hour to see if the color of the urine lightens and if pain decreases. Many kidney patients do not drink enough fluids, which can aggravate kidney stones.

Until you can get pain medication, 2 AZO (100 mg) available over the counter will help to ease the pain. Take them with food.

You are in my prayers.
