What does a stone look like?

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

I have been having lower back pain urinary difficulty last few days. My doctor suspects a kidney stone nothing has been confirmed. I had blood in my urine no sign of infection. Last night pain moved into my groin a pretty severe, not worth going to ER about. I slept fitfully awoke at 4AM lots of 'moisture' on sheets around my pelvic region (first time ). I got up to go bathroom upon dropping my underwear heard something hit bathroom floor. It sounded like a pebble. I searched around it might have been. I found something I'm not sure if it is a stone or just crud from a floor hasn't been cleaned in a long time. is description: It is about 5mm long at longest point. It is kind of rectangular in shape one end is more pointed. outside is white. . . almost frosted like outside of a crystal. It is malleable. I can scrape outside edges my fingernail to reveal a yellowish interior. I hope it is a stone. I don't want to even think about alternatives!

I have no idea whether or not this is a stone. Your description of the symptoms sounds like it could be a stone. You indicate that your physician thought you were having a stone. Were any tests done like a CT scan or kidney x-rays? If your physician isn't sure, there is no way that I can be either.

Your situation is a good reminder of why we tell kidney stone patients to ALWAYS strain their urine so that any stone that is passed is collected. In your case, the best thing to do is take the "stone" to your physician for possible analysis. If it turns out to be a stone, you have an answer. If it turns out to be something else, then you still have an answer. And strain the urine until you are sure of what is going on in case it isn't a stone.
