UTI's and Kidney stones, AGAIN!!

Post a new topicby Ronsescape on Tue Apr 08, 2008 4:28 pm

My third Lithotripsy done last month started back last Fall with a UTI that landed me in the ER for six hours. Now after this latest Lithotripsy, my Urologist claims the 5mm was reduced to fragments, but I still have numerous small stones in both kidneys. Now he wants to do two 24-hour Urine Collection studies and more blood tests to try to determine what is causing the formation of stones. My question is this - in the meantime arn't I susceptible to more UTI's because of the remaining stones and fragments lying there in both kidneys? Also, he says Urologists usually don't perform Lithotripsys until a stone reaches more than 4mm in size. Has anyone heard of this? Good luck to all the fine people on this forum. Be brave.

UtI's are so rare for males(so says my uro)that they rarely test us for them so i really can't comment on that subject but I can relate to the 24hr specimine and I may be corrected but,I recall my uro saying that i had to be stone free in able for the test to give an accurate result and if you have nuisances remaining in your Kidneys you may want to ask your uro if this is true...I've only had one opportunity while i was stone free to do this test and because it wasn't explained to me in full detail i ruined my results...Meaning that they wanted me to continue my life style and/or diet as if nothing was different...well after sufferring and NOT wanting anymore i had already changed my diet and was flooding myself so much that i filled up two, one gallon jugs in 12 hours and was happy about it only to find out they needed 24 hours of collecting so if your living the way you should and drinking AT LEAST 1/2 half your body weight in fluid ounces, be sure and ask for enough containers to collect for 24 hours ...if you know you have the most common stones
(calcium oxalate) you have probally already changed your diet therfore your test will reflect this... My first Lithotripsy in 04 was for a 2.4CM and after extensive research i have realized that the crumbs go everywhere and can get into places where they can lay and grow so i decided with this one to opt for Laser surgery and after my experiences with this go round i have decided IF AND WHEN I need another procedure I will have the keyhole surgery through the back..more evasive and it will include a short Hospital stay with a drainage tube BUT, the turn arround is well worth it....GoodLuck,Bruce49M (this is my 164th day of having a stent after laser surgery on oct 31st'07 for a 2.5CM stone) I quit making plans but i still have good spirits...Smile while you guzzle

questions!

Post a new topicby lkwestminster on Thu Apr 10, 2008 2:20 pm

Hello everyone- I just found this board and wanted to ask some questions- does anyone have vague pain due to kidney stones for weeks at a time? The first few times it was over a course of a few days and then went away. Now I've felt the kidney then the groin pain for weeks!

Also- has anyone ever heard of skin eruptions due to kidney stones? I just now have found there are about 3 or 4 red eruptions right on the side of the kidney that is hurting-

I am SO tired of this. Any good ideas other than lots of water, cranberry juice, and excercise?

Hi Lissa,
I did have the Vague pain as well. So much so that I was seeing both a Chiro and Physical Therapist..Obviously THAT was before I KNEW what the problem was.. I feel quite silly now!!
So, you aren't crazy..It too would come and go..
I also was told not to drink the cranberry juice as my only source of Cranberry, but to take the Capsule form because it sticks to the lining better, juice just flows right back out.
Didn't have the skin eruptions, but I bet that isn't fun!!
Good Luck..Hang in there!
