Nephrostomy Tube for Kidney Stones??My husband is 33 and has kidney stones He has a history of them and we're not sure what causes them. He's got high blood pressure, has had or may have a UTI He had his most recent stone about 4 months ago, it was about 4mm and it never went away. The stone he has now is the same stone but it is now 8mm. The urologist at the hospital told him that the kidney that is causing problems is 50% damaged. The stone is in his tube right now. They want to put a nephrostomy tube in for a few weeks and then go in through his penis and laser the stone after the few weeks. I went looking online and I read somewhere about the alternative to having the tube is to go ahead and do the laser. Now I'm wondering is the tube really necessary? Why can't they just do the laser now? He's due to have this done either tomorrow or the next day as it's not an emergency. Thanks so much.
Re: Nephrostomy Tube for Kidney Stones??A friend had that tube business for over a week and said it was about as unpleasant as possible. Why not get agressvie with options and tell the doc you want to know all the options, every one, and there chance of success or chance of failure and chance of serious harm?
Re: Nephrostomy Tube for Kidney Stones??Thank you for your reply. We went ahead and had 2 more opinions and they all said to do it. He had it done and is feeling no pain. He will be having the stones blasted out and hopefully be done with this all. Thanks again.
