6mm stone. Flomax. Nephrostomy tube stopped draining. Help?About 2 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a 6mm stone stuck in my ureter, low towards the end... it was obstructing my urine, so they inserted a nephrostomy tube into my back to drain my kidney. About a week later, I got sent to a urologist and he put me on Flomax to see if I could pass it without intervention... then just a few days ago, the flow of my nephrostomy tube slowed down, and then stopped completely, and I haven't drained any urine into it in 3 days. I called my urologist and he told me it's a good sign, and it most likely means I passed the stone into my bladder. The only thing is, I never felt any pain of it moving through my ureter (I'm on NO pain meds either), and also, I haven't caught any stones in my strainer. But even after telling me urologist this, he doesn't seem worried at all, and doesn't want me to come in until my appointment on the 31st. I'm just worried though, isn't there a chance that it's something else, like a clog in my tube, or a kidney problem?
Re: 6mm stone. Flomax. Nephrostomy tube stopped draining. Help?I just recently had a PCNL surgery to remove a 22mm stone. I also had a nephrostomy tube for a while to drain my kidney. I have passed stones before naturally. In my case, i never felt the stones until i was passing them through my urethra. If you are not getting any urine in your nephrostomy tube, im sure you have noticed a higher regular urine output. If your not urinating at all, then you will notice. I had a blood clot in my bladder that blocked off all urine flow and it was extremely painful. If your tube was blocked off and your ureter was blocked off, you will definately have kidney pain and you'll only be able to tolerate the blockage for only hours before you end up in the ER. Im sure your stone is probably in your bladder, if you haven't passed it. The flomax probably helped it passed and i've herad that the flow max is good for stretching your ureters so it will pass easily. I would be more worried about passing it out your bladder. That will be painful.
Re: 6mm stone. Flomax. Nephrostomy tube stopped draining. Help?I have a little bit of soreness in my kidney, but I'm not sure if it's just from the incision or not. I'm not on any pain meds, so it might be. If I was blocked, would the pain be really bad?
Re: 6mm stone. Flomax. Nephrostomy tube stopped draining. Help? After my surgery, i had a ruptured renal artery, wich caused a lot of bleeding from my kidney and many extremely large blood clots. (1-10cm in size) I had to have another surgery to evacuate the clots from my bladder. I had hydronephrosis in my kidney for about a week. (My kidney was backed up and was not draining) It was very painful. If you have a blockage in your kidney, it will be painful. You will notice if you have a blockage either in your kidney, nephrostomy tube or your bladder. I was able to withstand the pain for about 18 hours on no pain meds. I do not like to take pain meds. I felt a little of pain at the incision site for a while, but the pain in my kidney, when it backed up was not even comparable. The pain in my kidney, when it was backed up, was horrible throbbing. Im guessing you have passed the stone into your bladder if your flow in the nephro tube has stopped, but like a regular catheter, if something is bleeding then there is a possibility that you might have a small clot in it too. Let me know what you find out at the doctor, you have me curious!
