Post a new topicby TraceyB on Mon Aug 17, 2009 10:46 am

My husband needs this done for a kidney stone thats quarter sized.. can anyone tell me what they paid for their treatment. (uninsured) he went to the emergency room a month ago for the pain(nice 11,000 dollar bill) and found out he needs shock wave therapy.. was curious what a round about would be per treatment? $500? 1,000? 10,000? any info is greatly greatly greatly appreciated :)

A kidney stone the size of a quarter is too large for Lithotripsy and it is dangerous o the pancreas and the central nervous system. Try to find a teaching hospital and apply for assistance -- you should be ablr to find medical assistance through your state agency.

I have had three Lithotripsies at a cost of about $13,000 each. The hospital may charge less for an uninsured patient. However, with a stone that large, it will take many Lithotripsies. I am guessing the best option would be ureteroscopy with a basket removal.

Best of luck - I will pray for you.
