Kidney stone...again!This is my second bout with kidney stones in the past three years. My first stone required lithotripsy for removal. This second stone was discovered in February. I finally went to a urologist last week who confirmed the placement of the stone was in the ureter and the size to be about 3mm. My doctor and I decided to wait to see if I could pass the stone on my own. I am in quite a bit of pain almost constantly. I haven't felt the stone move and I have been taking Flomax and pain medications nightly. How much longer sould I wait this out? I am postponing my training due to this stone, and I am getting more and more behind everyday.
Re: Kidney stone...again!Increase the fluids - 2 glasses of water or clear liquid -- no coke -- every hour. If you are in pain, ask for pain meds, and discuss getting the stone out. If you are running fever, ask for an antibiotic. If necessary, go to the Emergency Room and tell them your symptoms. At the very least, they should order a CT, and if needed, find another doctor.
The ureter is only 2-3mm in width; if you a 2 mm ureter and a 3mm stone, it isn't going to pass. You can develop an enlarged kidney and secondary infection -- I have been there, and I don't recommend that route. My stone was 7mm, and when it was removed, I developed a secondary infection that was so bad I could barely walk. Do not wait -- a blocked ureter is serious.
