Kidney Pain

Post a new topicby monzster on Tue Apr 01, 2008 10:24 pm

I have had kidney stones before and know the kind of pain they can deliver. I recently found that I have a very large stone that will need to be removed by surgery. The way that it was found was I was having a CT scan for back pain that I have had for a year. The person that read the scan said that nothing was wrong with my back but they found the stone. My kidney Dr. said that the pain I am feeling is not associated with kidney stones I agree with him and still not convinced that I have a back problem. The pain that I am feeling comes and goes and is in the very lower right side of the back. Some people call it the "small of the back". When the pain arises there is usually a "ping pong ball" size place on my back in this region and then the pain goes down to my right buttocks that feels like someone is sticking a icepick in the middle of it and it runs down the back of the leg to my heel. Sometimes I cant move the leg and have to drag it. I pretty much have to knock myself out with painkillers because the pain is so intense. Its worse than any kidney pain that I have ever felt. Has anyone ever had the kind of pain I am describing with kidney stones Thanks again.

I've had severe lower back pain since an accident and surgery over 30 years ago which also causes stinging pain from my left knee down to the foot. It is caused by nerves being pinched in my lower vertebrae. Last year I started feeling more pain in my left lower back, but didn't think too much of it, till I started noticing blood in my urine. Turned out to be a stone in my left kidney. Had a lithotripsy procedure 3 weeks ago, passed the broken up stone within a week, and now my lower back is feeling much better. I am now thinking that I was probably carrying that stone for many years, but since I have constant back pain, I couldn't tell the difference. Sounds to me like you have some type of back/vertebrae problem. Check out this book, "The McKenzie Method" for back and neck pain. Three of the exercises have really helped me. If it turns out that you do have a back problem, I would really encourage you to read this book before you have any surgery. I wish that I would have.
