How long will docs leave stones in kidneys?

Post a new topicby csfgladys on Wed Feb 18, 2009 12:04 pm

I have had .4cm R kidney and .3cm in L kidney for about 5 years. How long will doctors leave alone until considering removing them? They are not obstructing and I do have discomfort now and then.

Hi! I've passed at least 3 stones and have one 5 mm in waiting (found that out today) - even for that one, I was told that I could just leave it there until it starts causing problems...but that this one may be too big to pass and lithotripsy may be something to consider. Til now, my docs always have told me mine are too small to do anything about and aren't blocking anything. So I've had my "rock collection" for years. I finally stopped bothering with their 6 month x-rays...why? So they can tell me they are still there? I don't need the extra radiation. When they start to move, I'll know and then I'll deal with it! :)
