Horse Shoe KidneyI have a horse shoe kidney. I was wondering if anyone else does and if they have had any complications. I'm 24 years old and have had several kidney stones I actually constantly have them and two I've had for a year now that haven't moved. Due to insurance issues I haven't been able to have further testing till I get a better job with better insurance that will cover any kidney related issues. One doctor told me it isnt a big deal but why won't my insurance cover it. It makes me think it is a bigger deal. I've had one test done and waiting to get more done. They said I'm not a canidate for the shock treatment because it can cause complications. I would appreciate any information regarding this. I do have health problems and my kidney is always a worry to me. It may be no big deal, but I just want to be aware of everything.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
Re: Horse Shoe KidneyLithotripsy (shock waves for stones) does cause damage; there is a connection now between ESWL and diabetes due to damage to the pancreas, as well as high blood pressure because of the shock to the body.
If you are questioning whether a horseshoe kidney is an issue, research the topic and ask your insurance company for an explanation; if they won't give you an explanation, contact the Insurance Commissioner of your state.
