Gluten allergy reason for kidney stones?

Post a new topicby alyssa9219 on Sun Aug 02, 2009 7:02 pm

I'm 17 years old and was first formally diagnosed with kidney stones two years ago. I'm currently seeing a so-called "specialist," however she can't fit me in for another three months. I've passed 5mm stones and smaller, and at one point I was passing them daily. No matter how much water I grown myself in I've noticed I'm more likely to be sore or pass a stone if I eat oatmeal, bread, or granola. I heard that a Gluten allergy can cause problems with the kidneys, and that the two may be related. I was also diagnosed with iron-deficiency anemia and I read online that this may also be a symptom of a Gluten allergy. I was just wondering if anyone had heard about this or maybe even experienced it themselves? ANYTHING would help. Thanks!

Tell the doctor you can't wait 3 months; tell them it is an emergency and if they won't make an exception, find another doctor. If necessary, go the emergency room and when they are done examining you, ask for a referral. or check with physician referral through the hospital.

If eating oatmeal, bread or granola aggravates this, don't eat those things, and see if you fee better. If you are anemic, you may be losing blood because of your kidney stones -- I am dealing with that right now. Have you tried a gluten-free diet? If you go to a high protein diet, you probably wont miss the carbs, providing you eat every 2-3 hours, and do continue forcing fluids.
