foods to eat

Post a new topicby hotmary on Sat Feb 21, 2009 11:32 am

Anyone out there able to help me? please? 2 weeks ago i was in agony with back-ache,phoned NHS advised by doc there to go to A&E. Gave me pain killers, took blood, urine sample, had x-rays,since been for UVP scan and to appointment wih Urology. The consultant there told me i had passed a kidney stone when i was in so much pain but obviously never having had kidney stones before i didn't realise this so obviously don't know what type it was. He just advised me to cut down on red meat, cut down on dairy,no chocolate - don't have a lot of any of those anyway, also to have milk in my tea. Up until then i drank gallons of black tea and coffee daily. Has that made my condition worse?
Few questions.
1.Does anyone know if i need to have milk in my coffee now too?
2.What foods am i able to enjoy without cutting back on?
3.White bread or wholemeal bread?
Please if anyone can give me some advie i would appreciate it greatly.
Awaiting a response...............

It completely depends on what kind of stone you had. The most common type of stone is composed of calcium. I was told that a change in my diet would hardly impact the formation of stones as long as i wasn't eating a lot of one item containing large amounts of calcium. I have also heard rumors that tea has something to do with stone formation and kidney pain. (Not sure what it does though). In my case, i never got the recommended of calcium i was supposed to, since i was young. My body doesn't seem to distribute the calcium where it is needed. Therefore, my kidneys seem to be filtering a lot of calcium causing stone formation. GOOD LUCK!

Hi again,
There are 2 different websites i found for you to look at. These are really helpful in telling you the type of diet you might want to follow to prevent the stone formation. The most common stone is made up of calcium, so if you are unsure of the make up of your stone then i would follow the low calcium diet.

Patients developing calcium stones are advised to cut down on their intake of Meat, fish, chicken. But my doctor advised me that altering your diet may not help much at all. "Some people are just stone formers" (like myself)

These 2 links help out really well to describe what kind of diet you should follow. You can also go to Google and search for "kidney stone diet restriction". It will bring up a variety of websites with good information.
