First Stone Maybe Stuck Have Questions

Post a new topicby Nicolinaz on Thu Jan 01, 2009 8:25 pm

It was discovered on 12/23 that I had a 3mm stone. I went to the ER in Major Pain, vomiting..the works. Morophine did not work had to give me another drug. After the CT scan they gave me some drugs. Instructions to drink water..and then strain the urine. On 12/25 I no longer had any pain and things appeared normal although I felt bloated. A few days later I started to feel the frequent urge to urinate with not much happening when I did. I was drinking a ton of water so I would have expected more frequent flushing..Instead I would need to urinate..then as soon as I was done I would feel the urge to go. I saw the urologist and he test me for UTI which was negative. So 4 days later it is still going on 1/1/09. Lots of pressure and the need to urinate with not as much output as I would have expected to see. Doc also put me on flomax to relax things. I do not think this stone has passed. How long can we go on in this mode. I feel uncomfortable although no major pain in a week but the Doc said that might change. Could the stone be stuck somewhere. I go back to the Doctor on 1/9 which seems like a long time to have to deal with this. What usually happens next. The Doc was a bit rushed when he saw me and stated sometimes the stone can bounce around the bladder and make it feel like a UTI Not liking this feeling. Also when the Doc reviewed the scan with me there is another stone sitting in my kidneys that has not yet moved..so I guess at some point I get to repeat this ?? Now I am having anxiety over all of this..I want another x-ray at my appt to see where this is at but not sure if that is going to happen since my appt is late in the day..I need to see what is going on. Any advice, similar situations, ect. Thanks

Usually a 3mm stone with pass easily, (definately with pain though. Some advice before your appointment would be to log your urine output. YOu will be able to show your doctor/uro that your urine output is definately decreased. It is common for a stone to get stuck or lodges as it is passing through your urine track but usually, if you continue to drink lots of fluids, it will flush itself out. If you are in a lot of pain and this has been going on for a while, then talk to your uro about further options. There are a few different easy procedures that can be done to remove the stone from your bladder or your urethra. Ask him about these invasive procedures to see if they would be helpful for your situation.

Well I met with a different Doctor on 1/5/09 no progress it is still right at the point of dropping in my baladder. I have been drinking excessive water no luck. I know it is still there as as odd as this sounds I feel it. The UTI symptoms and no UTI. This is now consuming my life. The Doc did give me another med to try similar to flomax and if no luck in another week then she is open to going and getting the stone. There is also a more looming issue..She showed me a scan and stated I have 2 large stones in my right kidney and some very small ones. The two of noted concern are 7.5 mm and 1.00 CM those would not pass she stated and discussed the blasting surgery or the wait and see. I don't think I want to wait and see. I want to blast all the stones get them out and start over from there..make diet changes, medications ect. I can't live life with a bottle of percocet in my purse wondering if those stones might move..They are in the middle and upper poles (what ever this means) my first Urologist failed to inform me about the large stones..he stated I had one other stone but did not tell me anything about it or any options..Thus he got fired. So I guess I will know more on monday of our course of action. Straining daily and nothing..not even a spec..But the feels of UTI are continuing. Frustrating

At my follow-up appt. No progress decided to remove the stone as it was going on 4 weeks and getting worse. Had Uretoscopy (sp) the doc was able to remove and capture the stone so it can be examined. It was bigger then the 3 mm they thought closer to 5 mm. Stent was put in and it is very uncomfortable and painful. It has been in 3 days and seems to be getting more irritating and painful. It is going to be a long weekend. Now on to blasting the others. Being new to the Kidney Stones is causing me distress and some depression that this will never end. I also do not like uncertainity. Will it ever get better.
