embedded stone

Post a new topicby RTrainham on Mon Dec 22, 2008 1:18 am

I have a 9mm stone embedded in my left kidney in one of the pockets so they say. The stone is well in the meat of the kidney and the doctors tell me that I should not be in pain, but I am i pain all the time . Is there anyway of removing the stone? So I will be out of pain. If so can tell me how. I also get kidney stones about every six to seven weeks. I do get stones in both kidneys.

I also have a kidney stone in my left kidney, embedded in the tissue. My doctor told me that there was nothing that he could do until it moved. I am not in pain though. Im assuming there is something they can do for you if you are in pain. Maybe you should consult a different urologist if he wont do anything. (Although they might just give you pain meds and send you on your way)

I have gone to 4 doctors now . they all say the same thing .That because the stone is in the meat of the kidney The only way to remove the stone is to remove the kidney. I have been on pain pills for about 7 or 8 years . I want to live with out pain, and no more pills.

I also have some calcifications in my right kidney tissue where they can't treat...they have to wait until it drops down into the kidney itself to treat...I am finally stone free in the left side including tissue & kidney with my last CT a month ago...but my family drauma is escalating and i am on and off my stone pills...and keep drinking less fluids which i know is not good...unfortunately something i havent told my current uro yet but will when I receive a call back from him...my last treatment was on 10/24 where he basketed a 3mm stone since my stones never pass lasertripsy or ESWL isnt the treatment I have...but any treatment isnt guaranteed...i dont want to be a frequent stone patient annually at the hospital but with my family drauma it looks like that is what is going to happen...I do feel the flank pain bilaterally and it feels like little knives are stabbing you in the flank...hang in there and i would get another uro who believes you it took me 1 1/2 to finally get a uro to believe that my stones will never pass...and my uro has done everything i have asked him to do...it is hard these days to get a doctor who actually listens to their patients symptoms...no one knows your body like yourself...

I recently went to the hospital because of complications due to my kidney stone surgery. Before i was hospitalized i had informed my uro of the problems i was having. He kept telling me it was normal. i agree with the earlier post. It is very hard to find a doctor that "believes you". I sometimes feel like i should ask my uro if he has ever passed a kidney stone or (even more important) if he has ever had surgery to remove one. I feel that if your uro has some of your own experiences then maybe they will understand everything their patient is going through. Sometimes it takes a while of searching to finally find the uro that understands your condition and is also willing to do something about it. Good Luck!!!!

Yes, I believe so (I'm not a doctor), I have been shown my CT scans many times and my uro has shown me small calcifications in the "meat" of the tissue...intraparenchymal tissue...They can't treat stones in the tissue...the uro waits until it drops into the kidney...

Yes they definately show up on CT scan. I usually get a KUB xray, but sometimes small calcifications do not show up on them. I prefer to have a CT scan so if my uro agrees, then that is what i get. If you dont have insurance, a KUB xray is definately cheeper. (but, again, it doesn't always show small calcifications)

Yes, small stones don't show up I believe less than 4mm on the x-ray if they're calcium stones...I have so many CT scans that I have to keep asking my uro to do them...too much radiation he says but this is the only test that shows anything is down there small or not...since they keep causing infection...

I can find and measure my stones from a CT scan. They have all been in the Medulla part of the kidney. My uroligist was impressed when I told him the size. I had a CT scan for another issue so I had to bring him the disk when they said I had a non intrusive stone. Not before looking at it at home first. I knew that it was time to go see the urolisist before the pain started. by the time he saw me (2 weeks) later I was in pain.
