Can you leave a stone in the kidney? This is a great forum. Thanks to all who have given their time to respond to us newbies in the kidney stone world. I have a 7mm stone that could not be blasted by lithotripsy and could not be found with ureteroscopy. My urologist says it is in the meat of the kidney and that we can just leave it there. Is that reasonable? I'm worried when I read that stones get bigger and damage the kidney. Also, I travel quite a bit and I'm afraid of complications while I'm out of the country. Don't know the stone's compostion but most likely calcium oxalate.
Re: Can you leave a stone in the kidney? As long as you monitor the stone, you should be okay for now. If it moves into the ureter, it's trouble, and if it gets larger, it may also be an issue. However, get the second or third opinion of a good specialist, just to be sure.
