Can someone tell me if this is my kidney stone breaking up?

Post a new topicby Keri on Mon Jun 08, 2009 12:40 pm

Hi everyone, I just joined this site. I was diagnosed with a 2mm kidney stone last week. After taking some home remedies for the past 2 days, when I looked in the strainer this morning, I had what I can only describe as a white mush. When I touched it-it wa soft. by accident it went doen the drain, but could this be the kidney stone dissolving in pieces? Any advice would be so helpful. Thank you Keri

No I don't think it is the kidney stone. I have heard that some people have tissue like you did when they pass stones. Was there any blood? Many stones look like tiny gravel and can be greenish grey brown colored. Some seem sharp or rough also... sometimes people pass gravel and have no pain or problems and do not know it... usually the bigger the stone, the more difficult it is to pass and the greater your chances of surgical intervention

come and visit the kidney stone group on our yahoo board. It is an active group.

Here is my short list of good web sites. The Yahoo board is the last one. Also the Univ. of Michigan had a good web site. Dr. Stuart Wolf is there and he is a well known kidney stone specialist.

good web sites

http://www.kidneystonebook.net

http://www.urologystone.com

http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/437096-overview

http://www.drleslie.org

http://www.clevelandclinic.org look for urology department, then kidney stones nephrolithitis or renal calculi

http://www.dukeuniversity.edu I believe they have several pages of info about
kidney stones and treatment.

http://www.mwstone.com/STONES/links.htm Midwest Kidney Stone Institute
with lots of good links to other web sites

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Kidney-Stones-Group

a kidney stone forum Dr. Leslie is the urologist on this board. It is an active group where kidney stoners post about kidney stones and treatment and other kidney stoners reply. You will learn a lot if you read the posts for a few weeks or a month.

Stones are usually hard - like kitty litter, and there is pain when you pass them, generally speaking. The soft white mushy stuff may be cells sloughing off from the kidneys. If it happens again, save it in a jar with a screw lid and bring it to your doctor. If you can, urinate into a clear jar or glass and allow it to settle - if you see anything in the urine, it is likely infection and may also be an indication of stones. White milky stuff in a layer above the bottom is usually white cells indicating infection.
