Can someone let me know if this has happened to them?I have had a stone in the past that had to be surgically removed. I had no symptoms until I had to go to the ER for excruciating pain. The stone was embedded in my ureter wall.
Three years later I'm having pain in the same places, though not as bad along w/blood in my urine (but not all the time and only miniscule amounts. Of course when my doctor did a urine test, it showed no blood. Has anyone else experienced only pain but no or little blood in your urine w/a stone?
Re: Can someone let me know if this has happened to them? There are no hard and fast rules with kidney stones; sometimes, there is blood in the urine, and sometimes there isn't. Brown urine can be an indication of blood in the urine. I was under the mistaken impression that blood in the urine is red or pink, but that isn't usually the case.
If you have similar symptoms, you need to see a doctor. Check with your local hospital to see if they offer assistance with hospital bills, and apply for medical assistance with your local county agency - check with the Dept of Social Services. In the meantime, AZO 100 mg can help for flank and abdominal pain. I usually take 2-4 tablets, but you may not need this much. AZO is a UT anesthetic that helps to alleviate pain. You can also try ice on your lower spine or the corresponding hip, or a heating pad or hot shower. Gingerale may help for nausea. Catherine
Re: Can someone let me know if this has happened to them? Thanks for the info. I do have insurance, so the doctor or hospital is never a problem w/that. I had posted b/c my PCP insisted that if I had a stone there would be blood in my urine. He was very adamant that they always go together. The experience with this stone is completely different than when I had the first one a few years ago. Thanks again for your input. I'm going to be more insistent when I go for my follow-up that they screen for a kidney stone.
Re: Can someone let me know if this has happened to them?I started making stones about two years following extensive spinal fusion procedures.I am now 40 and since the age of 19 I have had 4 stones removed surgecaly while passing on my own at least 15.Some of the stones have been missed by doctors because of the fact that not all of the stones caused much blood to pass into my urine although they were moderatly painfull.I have learnend that not all stones are the same.My most recent stone was very painfull and caused me to pass massive amounts of blood for a week. When the doctor spotted the stone it was on the verge of passing into my bladder.Although I was not informed at the emergency room, the medical doctor I later saw informed me that there are three stones now in my left kidney. Please wish me luck as I am in the process of finding a new pain management specialist or a doctor who can treat all of my health conditions as well as my pain.My last pain doctor spent three years trying to prove that I was either selling my meds or using illicet drugs, despite the fact that I was not and have a rather extensive medical record verifiying my pain. The doctor I saw yesterday has refused to deal with my case, and actually insinuated that I was there to get pain medicine even before he looked at the emergency room records ! The folks at the emergency room told me to follow up with a doctor which was what I was trying to do.When suffering from a moving stone you do not feel like making a whole bunch of phone calls, thus I settled for an appointment in a town about 25 miles from my town.According to the doc, that is why he suspected me of trying to score drugs ! If only he would have looked at the records first ! I have now been told by neighbor who is a nurse, the doctors in my town are not taking any new paitents. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing !? Help ! I may have to travel three hundred miles to visit my original surgeon and see a family doctor who treated me as a teenager. This is so crazy.
Re: Can someone let me know if this has happened to them?It isn't common, but it can happen. Without a test for the presence of blood, it is hard to know, unless there is a large amount in the urine. Sometimes, the lab ingnores the results; I have had "normal" urinalysis and found out 5 days later I had blood and bacteria; my symptoms were so vague, the lab was clueless.
You can monitor your urine in a clear jar; watch for white, milky looking thick strands near the bottom of the jar; blood in the urine may look either red, pink, or brown, or not noticeable at all.
