Yahooooooo! no more stone

Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Aug 14, 2008 9:24 am

I was so scared reading peoples experiences, then it hit me, people with good outcomes probably wouldnt take the time to share a story, so I decided to tell mine so far. My stone was a whopping 14mm. I felt pain in the front, not the back so had no clue this might be my kidney acting up.
When they found it, I was on vacation. Naive as I am about kidney stones I thought it could be taken out right away. It wasnt possible. I returned home and found one of the best urologists who happened to have...Read the full article

It's nice to read someone with a good outcome and probably at low risk for any new stone formation or recurrence.

I have had kidney stones for two years i had them taken out bilaterally in the flank with stents out the back then 5 treatments later and a lasertripsy to be scheduled soon. Mine were all infectious and about 1-3 cm. I keep having UTIs because they are still residual stones in my kidneys with bacteria in them. Its almost clear down there but my new uro says it will never be clear since i am at high risk for recurrence.

you are one of the lucky ones. . . glad to hear it. .

I have the stones that dont pass and are difficult to remove i keep drinking fluids and nothing happens they finally put me on diuretics and potassium citrate. I started putting lemons in my water after being told to drink more and to give it more flavor it seems to be working at the moment. . i have also tried lime juice i now drink lemonade which so far seems to be going down well. i never thought i would have to rely on being in the bathroom so much.

Take care. . . i am glad you didnt have any problems.

Hi - I am glad your doing well.

Will drinking lemonade keep the stones from forming? If so, how and where did u get that information.

I am also a stone former - the type of stone that I have is cystine stones. I will await your feedback on the lemonade:-).

I am not a doctor, but lemons and limes have citrate in them which is good for the calyxes in the kidney and citrate is an inhibitor of the calcium stones, however I do take diuretics (lowers urinary calcium) and potassium citrate (since diuretics lowers your potassium) from my uro to prevent calcium stones from forming. Do you take special medicine for your stones? I have read that cystine stones are inherited and you have to drink water all day long. . . and then some. . Hope this answers your question.

14 mm. Thats like having a baby. I don't know how you did it. Isn't the stent
a horrible thing. I had two in last year and could not bear it. In bed for 2 weeks
until they came out. Then they removed the stones. I am now on my 10th stone
and its 9 mm and the MD's want to sit and wait as its not obstructing anything.
I'm not sure I like that idea.
Hope you don't get any more!
