I had mine taken out the back bilaterally with PCNL in June 2006. Mine were about 2-4 cm all infectious. I still keep getting infections to this day and have to pee in a cup every two weeks and take prophylaxsis antibiotics...I have had 3 ESWL's. Mine never pass...the last two treatments were ureteroscopy where they basketed the stone...ESWL isnt the treatment for me b/c you're supposed to pass these darn stones with lots of fluids and I tried I really did...now I cant drink much water due to the fact that I guzzled all that water and nothing happened. My stones stick like superglue.

I have only had stones for 3 years but it feels like 10 since I have had so many treatments. I am supposedly stone free in the left side but I know that wont be for long. What kind of stones do you have? Are they oaxalate? Mine were the hydroxylapatite triple phosphate stones (Struvite) infectious stones. Lucky me...

I know that taking the stones out your back is invasive and I have adhesions due to the many treatments I have had...your ureters are very delicate...and you need them to carry urine to your bladder.Good luck to you. My stones never make it out of the kidney. Very frustrating being a stone patient and telling your uro that you have flank pain and they don't believe you...I've was lucky to have a good surgeon. I still have a good surgeon and he actually talks to me and I get to make appt's with him something that I didnt get to do with my original surgeon.
