Continuing flank discomfort

Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Jan 19, 2009 5:38 pm

Well, it’s been 2 1/2 weeks now and I’m getting more uncomfortable with this aching pain in my left side. Occasionally I will get the well known stabbing pain we all know as “kidney stone” pain there and on the right side as well.
I was in my PCP’s office last Wednesday with nausea, chills, and fatigue. They did a urine sample and found blood, bacteria, and protein on the dipstick test. They said it was most likely a kidney infection and placed me on Cipro (ant...Read the full article

Yes.... This kidney stone I have right now has been a PAIN for quite some time! I have passed numerous stones since 2005 and the smaller ones pass one their own within a week or two... or three. Three weeks ago, an 8x10mm stone decided to move out of my kidney and attempt to travel down my ureter. That sent me straight to the ER. I had the ESWL, the shockwaves from outside my body, the next day. I was still having bad pain 4 days later so I went back to the ER and they took an xray and there was still a big stone sitting right outside my kidney, in the renal pelvis. But, there was no way I could pass this stone because I had a stent placed in my ureter from the procedure. So, they tell me the soonest they can do another laser procedure is the next Tuesday, which is tomorrow now. So, I lived with the pain and irritation of the stent for two weeks now and the pain of the stone for three weeks now. Percocet and I have become excellent friends. So, finally, tomorrow morning I go in and have the stone blasted again... I hope this time is the last time!! .... enough about me... the reason I wrote was because I had been feeling this stone IN MY KIDNEY for at least 6 months now. At Christmas time I was really feeling the stone, peeing blood and the whole works, then it sat dormant for 2-3 weeks before it caused this trouble I am having now. The doctors say that you shouldn't be able to feel a stone in the kidney... but I totally disagree. There is no other reason for the aching, sometimes stabbing pain I have been feeling in my left side for at least 6 months now. The doctors can read all they want about kidney stones in the books... but unless you have had one... you have NO IDEA what they are like. Take charge and take control of your own health and TELL the doctors what you need! Educate yourself and know what YOU need! good luck!
