Wilm's tumor

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Mar 17, 2003 8:33 pm

When I was 17 years old - my father passed away from Renal Cell Carcinoma. 8 years later when I was 25 years old - I was diagnosed with Wilm's tumor. I had a radical nephrectomy and no chemo or radiation follow up. 7 years later - thank God -I am still cancer free. I have CT scans, ultrasounds, bloodwork and x-rays twice a year. I guess the reason I am writing is to see if anyone else has heard of an adult person becoming ill with a childhood illness. Wilm's tumor is known to afflict children - not 25 year old women. I am also wondering if there are any studies being conducted regarding the relationship of kidney cancers among family members. I've been told that there's no relation between what my father had and what I had - but I find it hard to believe that a father and his daughter both are afflicted with different forms of kidney cancer
