transitional cell cancermy husband had his kidney removed last year(6cm tumor),3 months ago we found the cancer is in both hips ,lungs(upper& lower),liver ,spine, lymp nodes, and fluid has built up around the area where his kidney was removed, and his speen is enlarged.three months of chemo has done nothing, there are more tumor in other areas and the others have grown. he is supposed to have roddes put in his hip this week, if his red and white count is up. on top of that he had massive heart attack when he came out of sugery last year (HE WAS GONE). he is 43, please tell me what kind of time he has. i am not looking for exact time. i want to give him quality time and i can't ask the doctor with him there ,he still is holding out for hope. also can this travel to his brain. do you know of anyone that would help me with the emotional aspect of this. hospise said they will not step in till all treatments are done, because it is considered life prolonging if he has more chemo i need help understanding this.
Re: transitional cell cancerWe are not oncologists, but my understanding is that most chemotherapy is ineffective in similar cases. Such widespread disease can involve the brain.
Most hospitals have a social work service whose support can be very helpful under these circumstances. While no one can predict the future, expected survival in similar cases is often measured in weeks rather than months. Calling your doctor for an informed personal opinion should be considered when you have some privacy. Re: Re: Re: Re: transitional cell cancerDear Sandiep,
I am very sorry about your husband's condition. Stage 4 renal cancer is not very treatable, I'm afraid. I am a stage 3 survivor myself, with no recurrence, so far, 14 months after my nephrectomy. I pray that I will never relapse, but who knows what the future holds? As for emotional support, pleae join my wonderful friends and me at a site which has a very active message board, lots of information, and chat every evening. Just type "cancersurvivorsonlinenow" into your browser, or search for it in msn communities. We'd be happy to get to know you, and offer you tons of fellowship. God bless. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: transitional cell cancerI'm a renal cell carcinoma survivor also. You might want to check out the Kidney Cancer Association web site. There is also a on line Kidney-Onc list which has over 700 memeber who all have or are cargivers to kidney cancer patients. When you go to [moderator note: website address has been removed] and you will see reference to Steve Dunn cancer page... that is where you'll find this group. There is alot of sharing of treatments, obsticles that occur and is a great resource. I can't recommend it highly enough. The one thing you must keep in mind tho is that this list is not a group of Physicians... and the experiences for each person is different. There's support from those who have already gone through what you may be going through and have found out tips that help with certains situations.
The one thing that is of utmost importance is that you get followed very closely by whomever your care provider is. Best of Luck Dear Sandiep, I am very sorry about your husband's condition. Stage 4 renal cancer is not very treatable, I'm afraid...
