renal cell metastsis to areas other than organs

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

My sister diagnosed in March, 2000 of renal cell - had kidney, part bladder removed. Six months later she had pain in hip-found tumor has eaten away at bone. Had operation pins/plate to connect leg/hip. y found tumors in both shoulders along spine as well as near knee. all found in late October,2000. y saw a small tumor in head at same time were not concerned about it because of size. particular tumor has grown in past week to 4 centimeters had eaten away at skull fractured it. It has caused a bump to appear on her ehead. y will start radiation on Friday, tomorrow on head. y had started radiation on spine as well y want to use interferon also. IT has not spread to brain yet. MD's say it is fastest growing cancer y have ever seen - she is at Besda Hospital in Maryl. do think is prognosis how long bee it will spread to brain - Will she make it to end of year? Thank r blunt direct answers.

Unfortuantely I cannot tell from the information given what her expected length of survival is. It sounds as if she has bone only disease as the site of metastasis. Bone only disease is rather rare and the length of survival of these patients is unpredictable. I think that therapy with interferon is a good choice. If she is eligible for any clinical trials she should consider participating. Thank you for using oncologychannel and please write back if other questions should arise. Good luck to your sister and your family are prayers are with you.

Kidney and lung cancer

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

My 88 year old Father has been told he has a tumor in his right kidney, along with swelling in the lymph nodes, and also a mass in one of his lungs. He is too weak to undergo any kind of diagnostic procedures. So, I was wondering is this most likely cancer? Or could it be something else? He has had cancer of the larynx 5 years ago, and precancerous polyps of the colon, in which a large portion of his colon was removed. He also has at present prostate cancer. He was told it was a large tumor in his kidney. Also I was wondering if this is cancer along with the lung mass, would it take a long time before he dies, or is this a fast and aggressive form of cancer? Thank you.
