renal cell cancerI just underwent surgery 10 weeks ago to remove a kidney that had renal cell in it. After many tests, I was told that there was no cancer anywhere else and that I wasn't a candidate for chemo, and that it was contained in the kidney.
My bone scan had an area in the femur that was enhanced with a hot spot. I was sent 3 weeks ago for an MRI and got a phone call the other day from the doctor telling me he would like me to see an orthopaedic oncologist The report said that it is an enchondroma. I will be seeing the doc on Oct. 1st to see what's going on. I'm wondering what the chance is that the cancer has spread to my bone if there was no other metasteses in my body? Also, my potassium level keeps fluctuating up and down. Could this be my one kidney trying to compensate? Has anyone else had this happen?
Re: renal cell cancerEnchondromas are benign tumors consisting of cartilage and found in intramedullary bone. The biggest problem with enchondromas are related to them causing a fracture (pathologic fracture). There is a small chance that these benign lesions will become malignant. This should not be related to your renal cell cancer. It makes good sense to send you to the orthopedic oncologist since Enchondromas are outside the realm of urology, good luck.
