Is it normal to have some numbess in the area of where I had my partial left nephrectomy? I have had this since the surgery, 7 days post-op today. I was told it was not because of the epidural, what could cause this? I see the doctor next week, otherwise I am feeling fine is this normal? The numbness is not the incision itself, it is directly across from it on my stomach and only on the left side? Thanks

I had a radical nephrectomy May of 01 I still have a numb feeling at the site of my incision. Actually it also extends down the right side of my abdomen. I am aware that I am touching my skin, but it feels numb. The nerve endings have just not reconnected the way they were prior to surgery. For some people this numbness may be permenant. Small price to pay when you think of what the other alternative is

Skin nerves get cut during such procedures, and some numbness is to be expected.
Usually when healing is complete the sensation returns to normal.
