newbie..Kidney tumorFirst time here. Was told in August that i have a tumor in my right kidney. Am scheduled for surgery on Sept. 26th. I had went to my regular doctor for stomach problems on Nov 2006 ( sick when I eat , bloating, gas)
was given a ultra sound which showed something on my right kidney. Was sent to a urologist who ordered a cat scan. Cat scan showed 15mm mass that had debris and blood flow so the urologist said it wasn't a cyst because it would be clear fluid. I had had a ultra sound in 2000 and again in 2002 in another state and was told it was an 12 mm cyst. Had those reports sent to my urologist and after reading those he had me take another ultarsound and ct scan in July 07. Now it is 20 mm. He said it has to come out. Not sure what to expect now. He is doing it laproscopic and I am hoping to go back to work in 2 weeks (am a waitress). I get no diability in my state and cannot take off work as I support myself and have a mortgage. Just needing to vent I guess because I don't know for sure what questions I need to ask. No family support here as they all live on west coast and I am on east coast. Getting nervous... Thanks for your time....
Re: newbie..Kidney tumorForgot to mention...going back to my regular doctor for my stomach problem and bowels not being normal he seems to have forgot about that problem...Getting alot of pain in my side not sure if that is from the kidney or something else
Re: newbie..Kidney tumorgood luck it sounds like you and your doctor are doing the right thing
Re: newbie..Kidney tumorHi,
I can totally sympathize with you. I just had my left kidney removed about 10 weeks ago and it was renal cell carcinoma. It was 5 1/2 cm X 4 cm. I had NO symptoms at all and it was found by chance. I also have no family where I am, but do have a pretty good friend network. I had laporascopic surgery and ended up being in the hospital for 2 1/2 days. It was quite painful, and I wouldn't expect to be going back to work in 2 weeks. You will definitely need more time to heal than that, and I wasn't allowed to lift anything over 10 lbs. for at least 6 wks. I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks either. I am actually still sore to an extent. When I try to pick up anything about 25 lbs. or so, I have pain. I was 37 when it was found in May of 2007, and I was in pretty good shape before the surgery-I worked out about 5X during the week with weights and aerobics and I'm still finding it difficult to get back. Good luck with everything. Just try to stay positive. You are in my prayers.
Re: newbie..Kidney tumorHello. I was recently told I have a 27mm x21mm tumor on my right kidney. I did a lot of internet research and hoped my doctor would offer me "cyroablation" or freezing the tumor. It's less invassive with only a week recovery and one or two days in the hospital. He said I could have the procedure as long as the tumor was under 7 cm. Mine is 4cm. Since this is a new procedure for the kidney, (they do it at Stanford) there was no information on long term results. The partial removal of the kidney was the standard procedure, but it was my decission. I'm opting for the cyro.
Check out the information on the internet. Take care and drop me a line.
Re: newbie..Kidney tumorI had a tumer removed via cyro in June. In and out the same day and played golf the next week. I had a 12cm mass removed from my other kidney in May via lap. Was in the hospital 48 hours and back to work in three weeks. This Fridday I have my first followup scans.
Cyro seems to be the way to go for smaller masses.
