laposcopic surgery

Post a new topicby maddad353 on Fri Oct 12, 2007 12:03 am

What would be the reason or difference in the laposcopic surgery to just burn the tumor rather than cut it out? I know its done because of only one kidney but why not cut it out instead of burning it out. Not sure about this dr I felt like i was rushed and didnt really get questions answered. Like what really are the risks ? Of course I guess there really wasnt much he could say I thought about a 2nd dr idea but hate to waste time and money if I have no other choice and the answer will be the same might as well just get it over with.

Not sure what the term "burn it out" means. Radiofrequency or high intensity ultrasound usually do not require laporoscopy. You have to do something to coagulate the area were the tumor was to stop bleeding and lasers or electricity is used to stop the bleeding.

my understanding is that they use a probe with heat or it can be frozen. He just said he would insert the probe and burn the tumor to kill it .

Good choice, some hospitals can do radiofrequency through the skin and not have to do the laparosocopy

I was just told they would do this laposcopic but really have no choice since it has grown and while its still small guess its the best idea.
