Kidney removal

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Jan 26, 2005 9:20 pm

My Dad just recently underwent surgery to remove the right kidney, which contained an 8 cm tumor. The adrenal gland was removed, also. 40 years ago, he underwent kidney surgery on the left kidney for removal of a large cyst & was told the adrenal gland was removed, but has no records to know for certain. Now, we don't know whether he has an adrenal gland. My question is does anyone know what exactly the adrenal gland does?

the inner medula of the adrenal gland produces epinephrine and norepinephrine and the outer cortex produces a variety of steroid hormones. People without adrenal grands are given cortisone daily.
