kidney massA mass was found on my husband's kidney by CT. The MD said it looked like cancer and he wanted to get a biopsy. It is 2.7cm. After a failed attempt, the MD said well lets just wait 3 or 4 months and see if it grows. We went for a second opinion to another urologist He read the first MD's notes and said lets just wait and see.
It all started with my husband feeling sick, tired, no appetite, and upper right quadrant pain any time he ate. He has lost 25+ lbs in the last 3-4 months. I am not sure what to do now. I almost want a 3rd opinion but it seems the MD's only read the others report and say "I agree". Any thoughts as to what we should do now?
Re: kidney massMine was 2.6 cm or so and there was absolutely nothing said other than have it surgically removed. At 2.7cm it probably has not spread but if it is suspicious of being Cancer, get it out. Make sure you see a Urologist who does this type of surgery (most do not), an Oncologist who does surgery or a Surgeon. If it is taken out before it spreads you shoud have a FULL recovery. Read my post 5 years and counting. I am still going strong as can be for someone almost 65. I applied for Medicare yesterday and I intend to have the younger generation pay for my medical care for at least 25 more years, just as I paid for those before me.
Re: kidney massHi I had a ct scan because I have been having abdominal pain after i eat, and pain in lower back they found 1 cm lesion on my right kidney. He said it looks more suspicious of cancer, and he was referring my to a urologist. I went to that urologist and he said he would use the procedure called cryrosurgery and it freeze it, he sent my to this other doctor who preforms that procedure. I wanted a 2nd opinion and went to another urologist he said it looks funky to have a biopsy. I heard not to have biopsy. So I got a referral to University of Iowa I went on Monday and the Doctor said it has contrast on the spot and usually cancer does and he wants to removal part of my kidney and then the pathologist will do a biopsy make sure the margins are cancer free. The doctor said he has had 4 patients around my age and it was cancer. I'm 36 That doctor didn't think cryrosurgery is a good choice for me maybe a older person. I am so glad I went and got my 3rd opinion That was what my gut feeling was telling my to do. Janelle
That doctor said the pathologist always assumes it cancer until the reports says it's not.
Re: kidney massThanks so much! How did you find the MD for your 3rd? I think our 2nd was a waste of time. He basicly read what the 1st MD said and agreed. My husband is so sick of MD's that I am not sure I can get him to see another. Let me know how your surgery goes.
Re: kidney massI actually new one of the patients that the Doctor was referring to ,They said he was a great Doctor I also went on Barns in St. Louis websight and they had of information about kidney cancer, and about how important it is to go to a specialist. Good luck Janelle
