Kidney Cancer

Post a new topicby nicolrprice on Mon Apr 21, 2008 2:18 pm

First timer! My Dad in June of 2006 had his left kidney removed because he had renal cell carcinoma that was 8 cm large, now a year later he has a "cyst" on his right kidney that is growing and now a second spot, they are calling it a cyst and it just seems ironic to me to have kidney cancer on one kidney that they have to take out and know almost two years later we have to spots on right kidney, what could happen or what should the doctors be doing. Should we get a second opinion?

My mom has kidney cancer. It started in her left kidney and they found a spot on her right. Left kidney was removed in 1999--she was 68. The right kidney's spot was in a very bad place where the boood flow comes in so we did nothing and monitored its growth. It was stable until 2004 and they found more spots in her lung and adrenal gland. Then in 2006 the right kidney's spot started to grow. It was so slow though that the doc decided to just monitor the growth and in 2007 it started to grow more aggressively. She has had Nexivar...and recently Torisel(both chemo's). Niether were able to stop the growth so now she is off the chemo I hope the fact it took so many years has helped you. The one thing I've learned from reading and corresponding is every case is unique. I do hope your dad has a doctor that you all feel comfortable with. Take care and I hope for the best for you.
