Is this cancer? Can someone tell me what will more than likely will happen? here are my MRI Results
Here is what the MRI Findings stated. "There is a 5.8 cm mass extending posterior aspect of the left kidney with a 1.3 cm thick wall that is enhancing with a liquefied center. The inner aspect of the thickened wall is rather nodular and irregular in appearance. Remainder of left kidney is unremarkable, right kidney is unremarkable. " Here is what the MRI Impression stated. "A 5.8 cm mass extending posterior aspect of the left kidney, most consistent with carcinoma with central necrosis; less likely possibly a renal abscess although would expect surrounding secondary fat changes and there would be clinical correlation for abscess if this was the case." I want to try and be prepared for whatever the doc(urologist) may tell me. My PCP states its a tumor.
Re: Is this cancer?Based on your x ray reports you most likely have a renal cell carcinoma. The good news is that it appears to be confined with no spread. More good news is that it is not that large and you have a normal other kidney. This is a very curable situation. You will probable get a chest x ray and bone scan to confirm that this is no spread, these will most likely be normal based on the size and description of your tumor. Based on the anatomy and exact location you will most likely need a partial or complete removal of that kidney, nephrectomy. In most cases this can be done laproscopically. With a normal other kidney you will do fine and have a normal life, one kidney is all you need. Good luck
