cancer stage upgraded

Post a new topicby kisama on Thu May 21, 2009 6:36 am

I had an ultrasound on 7th January for a kidney stone in my left kidney and while there a 6cm tumor was found on my right kidney. I had a ct 2 weeks later and was told it was actually 7 1/2cm but was contained in the kidney and was a stage 2. 5 weeks later I had my kidney removed (laparoscopic) and recovered very quickly ( I was out of hospital after 3 days , off painkillers after another 3 days then hillwalking after 3 weeks ). I got my pathology results 8 weeks after surgery and was told I had a grade two, stage T3. My surgeon told me I had came in just in time because the tumor was starting to come out but had not went into the vein but my question is why did a ct show it to be a stage 2 then 5 weeks later it`s a stage T3, I thought the ct scan was supposed to be very accurate, does that mean it started to come out the kidney in the 5 weeks before surgery, ( I asked my surgeon if it could spread while I was waiting for surgery and he said no it wouldnt ). I am a 42 year old female single parent to three children and am now worried that there`s more chance of recurrence with the higher stage because I was left for 5 weeks before it was removed.
