Any Advice Helpful

Post a new topicby janelle on Sat Mar 22, 2008 11:30 pm

On Monday I'm going to a new urologist to get a 2nd opinion. My first urologist found a lesion 1 cm
on my right kidney . He said that it is small and can be removed by using cyrosurgery which is frozen off. They say it's pretty effective, he said that it is probably is renal cell carcinoma that he isn't going to biopsy it because sometimes it isn't right. He is referring to me to a new urologist that will do the surgery, my appointment is on March 31st. I have pain in my lower back , the dr thinks it is arthritis, I just don't think it is. I get the pain after I eat and drink. Does this happen to anyone? Does anyone have any helpful information? They also found a ruputured ovarian cyst on my left side They said it will go away. Consider yourself lucky even if it turns out to be Kidney Cancer 1cm is very small. mine was 2.6cm and it was removed laproscopicly 5.5 years ago. Also a urologist who does this type of surgery is much more knowledeable than a regular urologist. Most Urologists are not well versed in Kidnety Cancer besides diagnosing and/or suspecting it and once thay diagnose or suspect it they hand the patient over to a Urologist who specialises in Kidney Cancer, an Oncologist who also does surgery or a Surgeon. I was lucky enough to be referred to a Urologist who specialized in Oncology and had just completed a fellowship in Laproscopic Surgery. As for pain I told my GP that I had leg pain when driving 2 years before my Kidney Cancer was discovered and he said I should see an orthopedist. The leg pain went away after the tumor and kidney were removed. As far as cyrosurgery I think that is very new and was not avalable to me 5.5 years ago. After having had Kidney Cancer and reading up on its symtoms it appears that many pains and ailments mask Kidney Cancer and for that reason many who are diagnosed find out not only that they have Kidney Cancer, but that it has spread as well.Whatever it is get it diagnosed and if it is Kidney Cancer get it out. If you did not have a CAT scan it will probably be requested by the second Urologist. The best news would be if the second Urologist determined that it was not Cancer, but if it is it is doubtful that it has spread given its size and surgery to remove it at an early stage should leave you with a normal lifespan. Please remenber to take my thoughts with a grain of salt as I an only a layman. not a doctor. Read my post 5 years and counting for my experience.
