Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:09 pm

My husband Ken, a Vietnam Veteran, had a kidney removed 5 years ago due to renal cell carcinoma. It was found accidentally and very early, not because of any symptoms, but due to an ultrasound performed on his gallbladder. We are currently appealing a claim with the Veterans Administration to have his cancer made service-connected because of his exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam. It has been denied twice but we aren’t giving up.

Hi Laurel,
My husband Ken is alos a Vietname Vet, he had his kidney removed three years ago due to renal cell carcinoma. Unfortunately is was huge and had already spread to the lymph nodes. We have also tried unsuccessfully to get anywhere with the VA regarding this. It seems there have been a lot of our guys diagnosed with this just in the past couple of years and I find it hard to believe with all the other cancers that are associated to AO, that kidney cancer would not also be included. Anyway, hope you find success and if you do I would sure like to hear about it, thanks Bevie

My father was also in vietnam and was diagnosed with clear cell renal carcinoma. when diagnosed it was stage 4. the cancer had spread to the bone, lungs, and brain. He lost his fight only eight months after the was diagnosed. He was granted disabillity. I don't know if it was because he was terminal or because he also had post tramatic stress disorder that he lived with all the years after the war not knowing that he had it. After watching a show about it , the symptoms they described fit him. maybe that will help.
