Ibuprofen induced HUS

Post a new topicby TessaP on Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:19 pm

......basically below is my story.
Any opinion or someone would like to share their story would be appreciated.
My daughter who is now 6 years old has had too mild cases of HUS in the past year.
Her first was at the age of 5 and was in the hospital for 4 days. The second case was 8 months later and was in the hospital for a week (this was 4 months ago).
Both times (although urine was very dark and bloody) she always urinated on her own and her creatinine never exceeded more than in the 90's.
She never required dialysis nor plasma exchange.
Call it a mothers instinct but it dawned on me in both cases she caught a gastro and fever and I had been giving her ibuprofen for approx 48 hours (in proper doses) before symptoms of dark urine appeared.
We have sent her blood to Italy to be tested and although they are not complete we have received the bulk of results which show that both factor H and MCP genes are normal (there is no mutation)
I had assumed it was the ibuprofen before even receiving the blood results.
I contacted a friend of a friend in Boston who is a GI pathologist and when asked what do you know about ibuprofen induced HUS he said common in children but not so common in adults.
I am researching on the internet and finding a lot of information but at the same time feel I am limited to info..
