Help pleaseI have had hematuria for at least 4 years that I know of. Was found with renal cysts on left kidney at the time and told not to worry, that I just have a leaky kidney. Last year or so pain bothers me alot on the left side. Had two CT scans done in november and december, both with out contrast. One said scattered high attenutation areas in left kidney and small calcification on splenic hilum. One said hypoattenuating cyst. Had another one today due to pain and don't know the results. My urine comes back testing large on the dipstick and medium on the protein.(yes, I am testing at home) I had 24 hour urine catches, and protein was high and blood came out abnormal (large) Specific gravity is high. I am also anemic with low WBC. I am scheduled for a cysoscopy next week, but I am at my wits end. I feel like I am looked at like I'm crazy when I go in in pain looking for answers. Anyone out there have some insight? I would so much appreciate it. THank you. Mary
Re: Help pleaseMicroscopic hematuria is not uncommon and requires a baseline investigation of an ultrasound or CT scan of the kidney, urine cytology and cystoscopy. Oftentimes, no specific cause can be identified and we assume that a patient could have a leaky kidney (with dysmorphic erythrocytes noted). Having too many CT scans should be avoided because of the risk of radiation exposure.
Re: Help pleaseI know, I just get frustrated with no answers. Got the results from the latest cts. ( I asked the DR if this was really necessary since I had one in November,a nd they said yes? This one says hyperdense calcifications in left kidney and the calcifications on spleen could be prior granulomatous infection. The severe pain I had then has eased again now, but I know it is temporary. it always is. I have the cytoscopy thursday, so I'll just go from there I suppose. thank you
