Electrolyte Imbalance

Post a new topicby Wynn on Fri Nov 02, 2007 10:57 am

Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help me my father had a fall last year and since then he was told that he has low electrolyte's my dad is only in his 40's, but since the last few months he has deterioated quite a lot, he forgets things and unsteady on his feet. The doctors told him that the only treatment for this is to keep to a strict fluid in take of 1.2 litres of fluid a day. If he doesn't keep to this he was told that he would have seizures/die. Can anyone tell me if there is any other treatments out there to get his electrolyte's (sodium) levels back up as he's been on this fluid in take for about a year now & it's not working we have searched everywhere but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information.

Be sure that he is drinking GatorAde or Lyte water. The water is found on the Snapple.com site and can be purchased at Wal-Mart. I posted my story on this site entitled "Electrolyte Imbalance and Disorientation, Confusion, and no Recollection". My user name on the story is cccc.
I feel so badly for you and your Dad. It seems that doctors do not know much about this yet. I am still looking for answers.
Take care,
Carol
