Electrolyte Imbalance

How do they (catheters and electrolyte imbalances) work together when you need to drink more water or fluids to keep the flow flushing your bladder and need to cut back so as not to lower your electrolyte balance as it was what set you on this path in the first place?

Is there a a drink out there that an older gent can take that would allow him to drink more to help stop the many problems with the catheter? Any ideas most welcome. All the doctors tell my dad is drink less. He continues to suffer with blocks, blood etc.. Thanks for your efforts
